LHC Winter Swap 2019 :)

Long Hair Community Winter Swap time 😄!  This week I got this amazing hair-and-fandom-centric box from fellow member neko_kawaii 😍😄💙
I love it all, and she made most of it, too 👌💙! There’s some chocolate 🍫; a book I'm really excited to read; a grey paranda and hand-woven thin scarf inspired by Crowley's necktie from Good Omens (I'm 100% hyped with this fandom since June xD ❤️); some lovely finishing pins and an amazing hairstick of Aziraphale's Flaming Sword 😍 (more Good Omens goodies! I absolutely love that hairstick and it made my day 😄👌💙); and, last but not least, a gorgeous Doctor Who-themed tote bag she made and embroidered with one of out favourite River Song quotes 😍💙

xDD

And here come some action shots of the paranda, hairstick and pins with a cinnamon bun and braided updo, as well as some non-hair action shots of Crowley's necktie 😄

LHC Winter Swap 2017 :)

This awesome box arrived yesterday (after more than a month fighting with customs, alas) from fellow Long Hair Community member PixieP, as part of our annual Winter swap :) So today's post is basically a pic spam about all the awesomeness she got me xD And because we share fandom likes, she got me geeky stuff as well as hair stuff :D <3

Non-hair-wise, there were Norwegian chocolates, arm-warmers, a pair of Elven prosthetic ears (that will come in handy because I'm actually Elven-cosplaying this weekend :D), make-up stuff in lovely greens and blues and gold, a feminist poster she wrote <3, a lovely Moon necklace, Gryffindor and Ravenclaw (go Gryffinclaws :D!) bookmarks (now featured in the HP area of my bookcase), and my first ever Funko, a Star Trek Beyond Spock :D  He's now happily - I mean, logically xD - settled in the Star Trek+Star Wars area of my bookcase ^^

Hairwise, there's Argan oil, which I've never used on my hair before, excited to see how my hair feels about it ^^

A red paranda with leftover yarn (how did she know I was thinking about making a red paranda, but was too busy (and lazy) to do it xDD?)

A lovely leafy tiara/hairband, which I'm totally going to use for Elven cosplays ^^

Two gorgeous fakkares in gold and silver <3 I didn't have any and they seem to hold my hair really well!

Will post action shots asap! Thinking of wearing the leafy circlet this Sunday as part of my Lúthien cosplay, alongside the ears, and looking forward to properly trying the fakkares and paranda ^^

Random hair update II - LHC Swap hairtoys and braided buns

PhD work and other things mean I haven't updated this blog since December 2016 :S xD, so here is another random post with some pics from the last couple of months - Featuring braided buns with parandas, and new hairtoys from the LHC 2016 Winter Swap :D

In the last LHC Winter Swap I got, among some other things, such as lots of chocolate :D and a handmade lip balm, this gorgeous three-prong Jeterfork and a couple of metal bun pins with green stones. Both work great to hold my (slippery) hair and I've been wearing them non-stop for the last fortnight :D

I've also been wearing a lot of braided buns with my newest blue-and-purple paranda, sometimes with side lace-braids, and usually using my new metal bun pins:

Hairtoys: Flexi-8s

*EDITED from time to time to update my collection. Last edit: 15-3-21*

Decided to make a separate post about Flexi-8s (before it was part of the 'hairtoy-rest' post) because lately I've been using flexi-8s more and more for braids, half-ups and updos, and my collection is slowly increasing as a result xD

So far, I have 9 flexi-8's (from top to bottom in the image below): An extra-large 'Lúthien' one (don't know the name), Crimson Joy (large), Sapphire Joy (medium), Blue Flitter (medium), Trinitee (medium), Autumn's Delight (medium), North Star (medium), Starlight (medium), and an XS Elven flowery one (don't remember the name whoops):

Former pics:

My first ever flexi-8 from Lilla Rose was the October flexi of the month back in 2014 ('Autumn's Delight'). I got a medium judging on my fine-textured, highly compressible hair, but I have to say I was delighted to find that a medium flexi hardly holds even my most compressible cinnamon bun without additional help, so my hair is definitely thicker (and longer) than I thought :D xD!  It works great as a ponytail holder and an updo accent, but for updos I need a large (half-up, half-down) or extra-large (full updos).

The next flexi I got was the Crimson Joy (the December 2014 flexi of the month), as part of the LHC Winter Swap. This is a large flexi, and it works with half-up, half-down updos (length shortening updos), as well as a braid accent/holder:

Next came my first ever extra-large flexi as part of the 2015 LHC Winter Swap. Don't know what this one is called, but it has a really Lúthien-y aesthetic to me, so I call it the 'Lúthien' one :) I can wear this one in compressible updos such as cinnabuns.

Then came the January 2016 flexi of the month, 'Starlight'. This one has Missy vibes to me :)

My next flexi was the 2016 November flexi of the month, 'North Star', plus three decorative pins. I can never say no to anything starry (the troubles of being an Astrophysicist? xD), plus I thought they would look cool as part of Elven hairstyles:

Next was Trinitee, the Saint Patrick-inspired Celtic flexi of the month for March 2017. As a lover of all things Celtic, as well as copper and green, this has become my favourite one alongside the Crimson Joy;

Next was blue flitter:

Another medium, Sapphire Joy, the blue version of Crimson Joy, I got as a gift as part of the 2019 LHC Winter Swap :D:

And the last flexi for now was my first mini, with a flowery Elven look, back in 2019 as well (I don't remember the name of the flexi, though!). This one is great for half-ups and accents!
