Length hairstory - 2012 and fingertip

You can find an abridged version of my hair journey from 2010 in the 'My hairstory' page. This is the third in a series of individual posts that's basically about a bit more detail about my hair growing over the years, plus a pic spam of length shots xD

Previous post: 2011 hair (classic length).

2012 was the year I reached fingertip (in between classic and mid-thigh, it's the length where you stretch your arm straight at the side and your hair reaches the tip of your fingers):

I regained a bit more thickness during this year, although I still wanted to thicken up the hemline (that hasn't really changed throughout the years, really, I'm always wanting a thicker hemline :S xDD). But overall this was a pretty good year hairwise - I'm actually back at fingertip now, after the big trim a couple of months ago from knee, and I'm looking at the 2011-12 pics for inspiration xD Hoping to start experimenting more with texture and styles now that I'm more comfortable with how the hemline is looking :)

But let's proceed with the 2012 pic spam xD (also featuring the way auburn hair changes hue with the lighting xD):
  • February:
  •  March: Length shots (plus heatless bun waves) from a test for a show organized by my Irish group for Saint Patrick's Day (I reenacted an Irish Queen of the Sidhe from the story of Oisín and Niamh). One of my favourite hair days, both regarding length shots, and bunwaves (original updo was a seashell bun) ^^
  • April: Finally reached fingertip! (and have a blurry pic to prove it xDD)

  • May: Two length shots featuring heatless texture experiments (braidwaves+bandanna curls/rag curls in the ends):

  • June: Just a length pic -

  • July: July 2012 has some of my favourite length shot hair pics :) Also involving my (Elven) ranger cosplay WIP with that leather jerkin :D xD
One of my favourite hair pics ^^

Next stop - 2013 and mid-thigh!

2012 hair - Irish Medieval Queen-inspired style

Today's post is another historical-inspired hairstyle, this time of an Irish Medieval queen/noblewoman, inspired by this depiction of Isolde (the one in the middle):
Source

I wore this style back in 2012 in order to impersonate the Queen of Tír na nÓg for a show that our Irish group prepared  to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day.

-What I did:  This is a pretty quick style - The hair is loose except for two front pieces, one on each side, beribboned in a criss-cros pattern and worn hanging down the front (I just folded the ribbon in two at the point where I wanted the pattern to start and started criss-criossing it. A knot at the end keeps the ribbon pretty fixed and secure). The style is completed with a circlet.

And an early test with three-strand braids:

2011 hair - Celtic-inspired multibraided hairstyle

Today's post is a historical-inspired hairstyle, a multibraided do for my Celtic Sword-woman costume ‘reenactment’, back in 2011 (yes, I know, belated!), for a show that our Irish group prepared  to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day (video here).

What I did was braid all my hair in small braids, ten in total. They're simple three-strand braids, I guess this look would look cooler with some french or dutch braids or a couple of cornrows at the sides, as were worn by Celtic and Viking warriors. Two of the central ones are braided into another braid in order to keep the hair out of the face; the thinnest couple of braids are the front braids kept in place behind the ears; and the rest of the hair is braided in a reasonably symmetrical fashion, with thicknesses becoming thinner towards the front:

More pics from the show (although hair isn't that visible :/)  (for larger pics, click on pics or open in new tab):

I left the braids in my hair for two-three days (including washing my hair, I think that was the only time I've washed my hair in braids), and got tight braidwaves that lasted for days :)

The central multibraid resulted in crimpled braidwaves:

And to finish, a more casual version of the Sword-woman outfit, with a simple three-strand braid:

Beribboned hair: Braids

Continuing from my former post about beribbboned updos, here are some pics of beribboned braids I have tried, also from different stages in my practising timeline :) (click or open in new tab for larger image). I'm planning some short videos showing how I braid ribbons into my hair (there are useful tutorials on YouTube as well), and I found useful help in this Long Hair Community thread (started by me) as well.
  • Three-strand braid: The simplest kind of braid to add ribbons to, and the first one I tried (usually with green ribbons at that time)

  • Three-strand braid as a half-up:

  • French braid: You add the ribbon in the same way you'd do for a three-strand, then you start adding hair from both sides to create the French braid.

  • Accent side braids:  Lots of variations are possible (two side braids, more than two  braids, combining different ribbons, tying the accents braids together to form a half-up or letting them hang loose, etc):
Accent side braids with rope-like red ribbons, this style reminds me of Celtic or Elven styles.

Same style, but instead of braiding, I crisscrossed the ribbon around the strand (Irish Queen cosplay/Elven cosplay):

-Two accent side-braids with leaf ribbon (and, sporadically, a dark blue ribbon), tied together at the back, for several Elven cosplays (Lúthien Tinúviel, Noldorin Elven lady, Elven ranger):

  • Multi-braid: Ribbon can be added to accent braids at the sides, which are then braided together with the rest of the hair (see below). Other options include having side braids and adding ribbon to the general braid, instead, or combining different colours, or any variation you come up with, really :)
